What happens if the weather is bad?

The garden workshops take place even in changeable weather. There is a sheltered, light-filled area that we can use in case of rain or other weather conditions.

If the weather makes it impossible to hold the workshop in the garden, I will let you know in good time and we will find a suitable solution together.

Do I need any previous experience?

No. The workshops are suitable for beginners, and you don't need any previous experience in photography or cyanotype printing.

I will guide you step by step through the process. Afterwards, there is plenty of room for your own ideas and experiments.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

Basically, nothing – I provide a large selection of photographic transparencies and objects for exposure. You are also welcome to bring your own objects and image templates.

I also provide the paper for your cyanotypes:

• After Work Workshop: A5 paper, already coated with cyanotype chemistry – you can start designing and exposing right away.
  
• Beginner Workshop: A4 paper, uncoated – preparing the chemistry and coating the paper are part of the workshop.

If you would like to experiment with your own paper, you are welcome to bring some along. It should be no larger than A4 and weigh between 150 and 300 g/m². Colored papers can also produce interesting results.

You can make several cyanotype prints during the workshop and experiment with different motifs and materials.

Can I use my own photographs for cyanotype printing?

Yes. Your photographs or image templates need to be printed as negatives on transparent paper or film. Transparent paper is less expensive and works just as well.

The image should be black and white, inverted and as high-contrast as possible. In other words, you need a negative.

The aspect ratio remains 1:1: an A4 template will result in an A4 image, for example.

At the copy shop, you can ask for the print to be as dark and high-contrast as possible – similar to a print for screen printing.

How long does a workshop last?

This depends on the workshop. Depending on the format and content, workshops last between 2 and 5 hours.

Are the workshops suitable for children?

Yes. Short workshops are suitable for children from 6 years old. Longer workshops are suitable for children from 12 years old, accompanied by an adult.

I also offer special workshops for children and families with age-appropriate motifs and creative options.

Do you also offer workshops in Berlin?

No, I currently no longer offer workshops in Berlin. Regular travel between Hamburg and Berlin was not sustainable for me in the long term.

Is the cyanotype chemistry toxic?

The cyanotype chemistry used in the workshops is safe for people when handled properly. In concentrated form, however, it can be harmful to aquatic organisms.

For this reason, the rinse water should not simply be poured down the drain. Residual chemistry and rinse water should be disposed of at an appropriate hazardous waste collection point in accordance with local regulations.

Can I buy a gift voucher?

Yes. Gift vouchers for the workshops are available and are valid for three years.
